Cowling Community Primary School is fortunate in having a dedicated and enthusiastic governing body. The Headteacher is responsible for the internal organisation and day to day management of the school, overall responsibility rests with the Governing Body. This includes assisting with the appointment of staff, having oversight of the curriculum and ensuring the premises and finances of the school are efficiently and effectively used.
The Governing Body, as a whole, meets at least six times throughout the year.
All Governors are linked to aspects of our current School Improvement Plan, which they monitor through visits to school and discussion with staff.
Clerk to Governors: Marion Moraghan.
Victoria Wakeman
(Co-chair) Co-opted Governor
I became a Governor at Cowling Community Primary school in March 2019, that fateful year when everything changed and am now Co-chair of the Governing Body. I joined the governing body as I really wanted to help and support the school. I have had a varied career starting off in the Medical device industry before helping set up a company with my husband. I am currently in training to become a qualified counsellor.
Sarah Boyd
(Co-chair) Co-opted
I have lived in Cowling since 2011 and have two sons that both attend Cowling CP School. I became a governor in 2022 as I wanted to use my professional skills to support the school in continuing to provide an inclusive, diverse, rich and rounded education and school experience that all of our children deserve. From the time I spend in school, I am always so impressed at how confident and independent the children are in their learning. I have worked in higher education publishing and technologies for over 20 years and am currently Head of Education Product at the University of Sheffield.
Deborah Cross
Co-opted Governor
I moved to Cowling in 2013 and my child started at Cowling Primary school in September 2022. At university I studied archaeology and for the last 20 years I have worked in museums and heritage organisations managing heritage projects. I have worked for North Yorkshire Council since 2020 developing and delivering heritage and culture projects and working with community groups and schools to engage with the fascinating history of North Yorkshire. I also support local voluntary organisations with their governance documents and bid writing for external grants. I believe that the skills I have acquired over the last 20 years will benefit the school as it develops and grows, and I am grateful for the opportunity to support the school and village in this role. Outside of work I am an active member of Holy Trinity Church helping to lead the youth side of the church. I also enjoy taking part in amateur dramatics and running around after my 2 daughters, husband, and dog!
William Langdale
Co-opted Governor
Cowling has been my family home for over a decade and all three of my children attend or have attended our village school. I have worked in education for the past twenty years in a variety of roles, starting as a Teaching Assistant, then Teacher and progressing to Deputy Head. In my career I have been lucky enough to teach across all age ranges from Early Years to Primary and into Secondary education. I currently a lead a team who support children in Early Years with special educational needs (SEN) across Bradford Metropolitan District Council. I am keen to support the local community, I feel I can do this through my role as Co-Adopted Governor by bringing the skills and knowledge I have gained through a career in education with a focus on supporting children in SEN.
Rebecca Paskin
Parent Governor
I began my role as a governor in 2019. I am passionate about being a governor at Cowling Community Primary School so that I can support the school with the skills that I have acquired. I have worked in education for 20 years with 16 of those as a primary school teacher. As a parent of children at the school, I am passionate about the education and well being of children at Cowling Community Primary School as well as supporting the well being of staff.
Bethany Buckley
Co-opted Governor
I am delighted to be part of the governing body at Cowling Primary. My child currently attends the school and as a local resident I have a vested interest in ensuring the best for all pupils and staff at Cowling. With over 10 years of working within the education system as a primary teacher, I have a passion for the wellbeing and education of all children and look forward to bringing this commitment and enthusiasm to my role as parent governor.
